Infertility in Goats II Answered by: Conrad Richter Question from: Amity Posted on: April 16, 2007
I note in the Q & A section that you discussed goat fertility with another person several years ago. One of the things that can reduce fertility is the high estrogen levels in some legumes, especially red clover. Red clover will cause an estrogen imbalance, enough to impair fertility. Seeding red clover for pasture or the use of hays containing red clover is to be avoided.
Also, for better tasting meat of sheep, lamb, goat, kid, do not feed alfalfa - fresh or as hay - within several months of butcher.
Thank you for your input. These are very helpful suggestions.
