| | | About Composting: What Herbs Can Be Used? Answered by: Conrad Richter Question from: Jacques Noiseux Posted on: September 12, 2004
I am a quite satisfied customer in your enterprise. Many thanks to you and your family! Congratulations!
I have a question: I got a "Sun-Mar" composting system for my home toilet. Would you please indicate me some plants I could use in this kind of system for balancing compost action, odors etc.? Do you have any documentation about this?
According to the biodynamic system of agriculture, certain herbs are thought to have beneficial effects on composting. Our product, "QR Herbal Compost Maker" (see: http://www.richters.com/Web_store/web_store.cgi?product=XT1300) is a biodynamic mix of seven herbs, including such herbs as yarrow, nettle, chamomile and oak bark.
How these herbs help to promote compost action requires understanding biodynamic principles. Austrian philosopher Rudolph Steiner, the founder of biodynamics (and also of the Waldorf school system), believed that plants have "life-forces" that can be harnessed to promote balance and healing in nature. The particular blend of herbs in QR was developed with this in mind as a way to promote the recycling process of nature and the promotion of healthy, living soil.
