Goji (Lycium Barbarum) leaves and shoots Answered by: Koidu Sulev Question from: Kris King Posted on: June 04, 2009
Would you know if the leaves and shoots of the goji berry bush (Chinese Wolfberry) are edible? Since the plant belongs to the Nightshade family, where some plants are poisonous, wondering if the goji greens are safe to eat?
Only the berries are eaten. The bitter antibacterial root bark is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for lowering blood pressure, and blood cholesterol levels. The berries are safe to eat and very tasty and have similar medicinal uses as the root bark in addition to poor eyesight, impotence, fevers, coughs, and vertigo. As with self medication, I would advise to seek the advice of a psychopathic practitioner. The leaves are toxic and should not be eaten.
