Tulips Edible? Answered by: Conrad Richter Question from: Pat Gutendorf Posted on: April 25, 2003
Could you please answer the question for me as to whether tulips or any portion of the tulips are edible or used as an herb and if so what is it used for.
The flower petals are edible. They are simply picked fresh and added to salads, appetizers and desserts. According to the East Coast Gardener magazine (http://www.klis.com/fundy/ecg/tulips3-3.htm), the petals have a range of flavours: from a mild bean-like taste, to a lettuce-like taste, to no taste at all. Taste or no, fresh tulip petals add striking colour and texture to the meal presentation, and they are excellent for stuffing. Tulips are always used fresh, never cooked.
