Can Dillweed Substitute for Dill Seed? Answered by: Conrad Richter Question from: Hugh Duckwall Posted on: September 23, 2005
Can dill weed be substituted for dill seed in recipes effectively?
Dillweed, i.e., the leaves of the dill plant in fresh or dried form, cannot substitute for dill seeds. In the kitchen these are really two different herbs with different flavours and different uses. For those who grow dill, it’s a nice bonus to get two delicious herbs from the same plant. Coriander is like that too: the seeds are used as coriander spice and the fresh leaves are the cilantro herb much loved in Mexican and Asian cooking.
