Can you recommend good plants to coexist in a rose bed and act as an insect repellent (perhaps garlic or garlic chives)? The companion should be a perennial that doesn’t spread and that might look good as a border. How tall does your garlic chive grow? How frequently does it flower? Can you help me to read your catalog entries - e.g., garlic chive plants are $3 - how big is the plant and how long would it take to get plants from seed?
Any chive is a good subject for interplanting with roses because they will repel aphids. Garlic chives grow a little taller than ordinary chives and have white flowers in late summer. The plants we send are 6-10 seedlings/pot and they may not flower the first year, but after that they will bloom regularly. They grow well from seed and should produce plants that mature about two months later than the plants we sell.
