Aphids on Hops Answered by: Inge Poot Question from: Moreah Hillstrom Posted on: April 6, 1998
At about harvest time every year my hops plant becomes severely infested with aphids. Any suggestions?
Have you ever tried ladybugs? They love aphids and will clean an infestation nicely if released at night with a bit of water and if aphids are scarse when you release them give them a bit of sugar water dribbeled onto the hops leaves. That will encourage them to lay eggs there and their "lion-babys" will gobble any aphids that dare to settle down on your hops. See our online catalogue. You will also find pyrethrum soap spray which can be used to control infestations in the early stages.
