Stevia Harvest Answered by: Inge Poot Question from: Sharon Preston Posted on: August 14, 1998
I bought a Stevia plant from you this past spring. It is growing nicely here in the Okanagan, western Canada. When and how do I harvest it for use? Do you know where I can get some information about growing and harvesting the plant?
To harvest cut off some of the lower leaves and dry them in an airy dry place in the shade. If the plant is getting quite tall, then cut it down to about six inches (15 centimeters) and strip off the leaves for drying and use. Once the leaves are dry they can be powdered by rubbing them through a sieve.
Try to keep the days long for the plant to prevent it from bolting to seed and dying down- often to never sprout again! The plant likes rich moist soil and warmth.
