Provence Lavender Clean-up in Spring Answered by: Inge Poot Question from: Staccata O. Posted on: May 11, 2000
I’m in the lower mainland area of British Columbia. I purchased a provence lavender last year which did really well last summer. It’s been outdoors most of this winter in a huge container. What should I do with it now? It still looks dormant but some buds are coming out? Should I cut the grey/white branches?
If the grey-white branches are drooping and dead looking, then cut them down to the level of the new buds. They were winter killed, but the lower portion of the plant was probably a little warmer and survived. Mulching the plant in the winter with straw or hay or evergreen needles and bows might keep more of it alive.
