Sowing Nepitella Answered by: Conrad Richter Question from: Lena Israelsson Posted on: June 2, 2001
I’m a Swedish writer of gardening books. Just now I’m looking for information About nepitella (Calamintha nepeta). Which temperature is suitable for sowing? How many days does it take before the seeds germinate? Finally -- how long does it take from sowing to flowering?
Because nepitella seeds are small (about 3000 seeds per gram) we prefer to sow in seed flats or seed boxes. We have had good success sowing using our standard method with bottom heat at 25-30 degrees Celsius. Germination takes 11 days. We do not have a sowing-to-flowering time because that is not a focus of our operation. We would guess that it is about 90-120 days, but we are not sure if there is a day length sensitivity which could affect the time considerably.
