Herbs to Grow in a Nursing Home Answered by: Conrad Richter Question from: BJ Leavitt Posted on: March 30, 2002
I am an activity program coordinator at a nursing home in Lincoln, Nebraska. The unit I do activities on is fairly low functioning. I would like to start a small herb garden. My space is limited and I would have to be very careful with any herbs that might be ingested. Can you offer me any suggestions or ideas?
Certainly if you limit the herbs to those that are used for culinary purposes then whether they are ingested is not as much an issue. Herbs to grow are many, but some suggestions are basils, chives, dill, fennel, marjoram, mints, oregano, parsley, rosemary, sage, savory, and thymes. Some others are that scented and are known to be safe are scented geraniums and lavenders.
