Ashwaganda and Kantikari Harvest

I want to harvest these two plants for their roots, (Ashwaganda and Kantikari) The fact that they really only get one summer to grow..... do you think the root system is old enough to be effective in medicinal uses.
Both plants are annuals and will not even be there next year. As all annuals they grow very fast in the one season that they have and the only thing that might make the roots bigger is a long growing season and with the warm weather in 2007 you should have that as well.
