Growing herbs Answered by: Koidu Sulev Question from: Elizabeth Posted on: June 03, 2009
This will be my first attemp at growing herbs. I will be planting them outside in pots, but my pots are limited. My question is do I need to be concerned with planting certain herbs together in one pot? For flavor concerns. Someone said that it could alter the flavor of them if they grow together. I am planning on planting oregano, basil, chives, garlic. thank you for your time.
If you have three different pots, I would suggest to plant each variety in its own pot. Plants do not usually like to be crowded. Garlic is not suitable as a pot plant and should be planted in the ground in the fall. As for herbs altering the flavour of each other I do not think it will happen in your case, even if you would wish to plant the three herbs you mentioned together in one pot.
