Alcohol Abuse

Is there a herb out there somewhere that works like doctor prescribed Antabuse? I have a man who is depressed about money all the time. He drinks beer every waking minute on his days off, and every night when he gets home from work. When I suggest to him that he is killing himself, that he needs to slow down or stop altogether, he tells me I’m not his mother and he is old enough to do what he wants. If I don’t like it, I can leave.

I don’t want to leave him, but I can’t make him stop. I was hoping there was a herb or something out there that I could put in his coffee or something that would work like Antabuse and make him nauseous when he drank, but not so sick as he couldn’t work.

I am at wits end. I don’t know what else to do. Do you have any suggestions?

There are no specific herbs that I know of that act like Antabuse. There has been some suggestion in the past that wild thyme makes alcohol less palatable, but we are not aware of any studies to prove that. However, there are many suggestions in previously answered questions that have been shown to help. Please go to our website at http://www.richters.com, and then go to the "Q&A" area and search for "alcohol" using the function "Search Richters Q&A".
