Heavy Menstrual Periods Answered by: Susan Eagles Question from: Danielle Posted on: May 13, 2001
I was wondering if you could help me. I have regular periods but they are very heavy at times and lots of blood clots. I was wondering if there was a herb that could help because I cannot take birth control pills due to side effects. I suffer from intense headaches, nausea, bloating, dizziness and light-headedness.
There are many possible causes for heavy periods with blood clots, including uterine fibroids, endometriosis, endometrial polyps, missed ovulation, hormonal imbalance and poor pelvic circulation. There is no simple answer to herbal help. The cause must be determined and addressed in order to effect a long term solution. I recommend that you visit your medical doctor or a natural practitioner experienced in women’s menstrual problems to sort out the possible causes and treatments.
A good book resource is Amanda McQuade Crawford’s "Herbal Remedies for Women" (Prima Publishing).
