I am very interested in learning about herbs. I am 30 year old marketing representative. I have a few questions I would like to ask.

1. I recently stopped smoking and would like to know what natural herbs I could use to clean my lungs?

2. What herbs could I use to cleanse my body of mucus?

3. What herbs could I use to help give me more energy and stamina?

Please contact me right away on any books that you may have on the subjects.

Fresh fruit & vegetables cleanse the lungs, improve respiratory function and reduce the risk of any kind of cancer. Juicing organic fruit and vegetables is a good way of getting the maximum amount of nutrients quickly. Carrots, apples and pears are particularly nourishing for the lungs. Mullein, Thyme and Licorice are useful expectorants to help clear out mucus from the lungs. Red Clover flower cleanses the entire body through the lymphatic glands. You can use the dried herbs to make this combination into a tea: use one part each of Mullein, Thyme and Red Clover and one half part Licorice. Combine the dried herbs. Measure one teaspoon of the combined mixture into a ceramic pot or mug. Add one cup of boiling water and steep for 15 minutes. Strain and drink. Take 3 cups a day.

To clear your body of mucus, avoid mucus forming foods: all dairy products, eggs, all meats (fish is okay), all grains and bananas. For a speedier cleanse, you can consult a natural practitioner about going on a 3 day fast.

Cayenne pepper, 1/4 teaspoon in a little water, followed by a glass of water, three times a day, helps the elimination process by stimulating circulation. You may want to consult the book "The Health Benefits of Cayenne: The Amazing Spice and its Curative Powers in Colds, Circulatory and Digestive Problems, Respiratory Ills and More" available from Richters.

As your body cleanses, you will feel more energy.

Two excellent herbal reference books in Richters online catalogue are Thomas Bartram’s "Bartram’s Encyclopedia of Herbal Medicine" and Andrew Chevalier’s "The Encyclopedia of Medicinal Plants". The booklets "Herbs to Help you Breathe Freely" and "Herbs for Detoxification" are also available at Richters.

There are several answers to questions on detoxification that you can reference on our website at Choose "Q&A" from the main menu, then choose "Search Richters Q&A", and enter the word "detox" for one search, "cleans" for a second search and "smoking" for a third search.
