Rectal Fissure

I have been told that I have small crack in the rectum it don’t heal It bleeds very little but is very painful. I have been checked by a GI. I also have been told I have a bacterial infection and a yeast infection do you have any suggestions. I would like to try something herbal for this.

I recommend that you consult with an experienced natural practitioner such as a medical herbalist or a naturopathic doctor, where a full health history can be taken to determine what factors may be involved in your health problems.

Some things to consider are:

In your diet, avoid soft drinks, sugar, sweetened foods, refined grains and cereals, coffee and red meat. A high meat diet promotes inflammation. Yeasts and sugars feed the yeast infection: avoid foods containing yeast (like breads), mushrooms and alcohol. Foods that irritate the bowel include coffee, chocolate, mushrooms, alcohol, high fibre, foods, dairy, bran, wheat, rye, oats and corn products, fresh fruit and vegetables, soft drinks, all junk food, all artificial colouring and flavouring.

Look for food "allergies" or sensitivities can contribute to bowel problems. Eliminate any foods that you find cause digestive problems.

The protein in your diet should consist of a little fish or chicken. Include lots of fresh vegetables and a little fresh fruit to ease bowel function. Fruit and vegetables are less irritating to the bowel when cooked. When the fissure has healed, include lots of raw fruit and vegetables in your diet. Include anti-inflammatory omega 6 fatty acids in the form of freshly ground flax seed (2 tablespoons daily) or flax oil and oily fish (wild salmon, sardines, herring, mackerel).

Vitamin C supplements can aid healing by supporting the immune system. Vitamin C is also a laxative which can help to ease bowel movements.

Herbs that support liver function, like Dandelion root and Milk Thistle, encourage a good supply of digestive juices from the liver. Slippery elm bark powder is soothing, protecting the intestine from irritation. Garlic is antibiotic and antifungal, helpful in bacterial and candida infections. Echinacea supports the immune system.
