| | | Advanced Pancreatic Cancer Answered by: Christine Dennis Question from: Dinora Posted on: August 07, 2008
I am in desperate need of help. My husband has pancreatic cancer with metastasis to the liver, but has recently moved to one of his lungs. We have two teenagers and two babies and he is only 35 years old. As you might understand I am desperate for some type of help. I don’t seem to be able to control his pain with all the medication they give him and the nausea and vomiting. He takes tons of different medications for one thing and another causing him constipation also. He is extremely weak. When he walks now, he stumbles. I can hardly bare to see my husband this way. He has lost an extreme amount of weight in the last two months (about 70 lbs). He is currently under chemotherapy (Gemzar). His liver has been completely blocked by the cancer. He used to have biliary stents to help with the bile, but the cancer kept growing over them so they placed two biliary tubes that are sticking out of his stomach one on the right of his stomach and the other on the center of his stomach. He eats very, very little at times nothing at all. I know maybe, I will hit rock bottom with you too, like I have in many other places with my husband’s cancer, but I really need help. I would like to know what could I give him to ease the excruciating pain he lives with, the nausea and vomiting, constipation, his weakness, anxieties, and possibly even the disease itself? He feels that obviously his liver is being damaged more than what it already is with all the narcotics he takes. I would really like to know of something that will help him.
I am sorry to hear of the challenges you and your family are facing. I have had good success with a tincture made from gelsemium (Gelsemium sempervirens) for cancer pain that your husband is experiencing. On average 1 to 10 drops, every few hours has been the range that I have given patients. This is a very powerful herb and really should be used under the supervision of a qualified herbalist. Coffee enemas have are helpful for relieving pain caused by bile duct obstruction and was very successful with one particular patient I had. Cannabis has also been effective. I have not used this one but Vitamin K1 has also been studied and found to be as effective as morphine in addition to having anti-tumor action -- 5 to 10 drops every 2 to 4 hours. Belladonna and corydalis are two other herbs that I have not used in my practice in this way but have been reported to be very good. I strongly suggest that you contact a local herbalist for these remedies and for more guidance.
