| | | Low Metabolism and Low Energy Answered by: Christine Dennis Question from: Donna Posted on: February 17, 2009
I have extremely low metabolism/energy. My blood work and thyroid look good. Can you suggest something that will help me?
Low energy and low metabolism, once thyroid has been ruled out, can be the result of poor nutrition, poor absorption and/or low adrenal function. If you have experienced a significant amount of stress in your life then I would look at your adrenal function first. If you have experienced a lot of antibiotic use then I would look at poor absorption first. If you have limited variety in your diet, then I would look at poor nutrition as a possible cause.
Low adrenal function is often the result of poor stress management in ones life. Obviously we can not always be in control of how much stress one experiences, but we do have control over how the body responses to this stress. Poor stress management coupled with a diet that is low in nutrients that the body uses a lot of in times of stress can cause adrenal depletion.
